T
he Trinka Funeral Service, was founded in 1941 in Little Ferry, New Jersey by Mr. Edwin F. Trinka, the son of Little Ferry's First Police Chief. Ed grew up in Little Ferry, having served the borough as a volunteer fireman. After receiving his funeral director's license, he married Helen Ullmann and converted their home on Main Street into our family's first funeral home.
In 1948, Ed expanded the business further north in Bergen County to Maywood, New Jersey. At the time, Maywood was a growing borough with a commuter train service. The Borough of Maywood was a town in need of an ambulance to help its population. Ed and many other volunteers used a hearse conversion vehicle to help transport Maywoodians to the hospital. Years later, Ed, with the help of friends at Atlantic Aviation in Teterboro, started the area's first air ambulance service.
Ed died of cancer in 1968 at the age of 51.
